Dear Friend, Keep Going

Dear friend,

I know you’re tired, I am too. I don’t think there has been a day recently that I haven’t woken up feeling the weight of life on my shoulders.

I know you’re discouraged, I am too. Sometimes it feels like there’s no hope of seeing the end of the tunnel.

I know you’re overwhelmed, I am too. My encouragement to you today is to keep going.

“When you get tired, learn to rest, not quit.” - Banksy

Since I heard this quote it has been my daily, and sometimes hourly, mantra. Too many times we hit roadblocks or hard days and decide that whatever it is we are working towards isn’t worth the exhaustion/frustration/overwhelm.

If what you’re working towards is something you deeply desire then learn to rest, not quit.

Nothing grows if it’s in constant sunlight. In fact, most plants would die if they never got a break from the magical but powerful sun. We need the quiet and darkness of the night to recharge. To rest our weary eyes and souls. And with the morning comes a fresh perspective.

Rest is not weakness. It is not laziness or lack of drive. These are lies we are told to keep running but not succeeding. You see, rest is a necessary component to our success.

And rest is anything that fills up your soul: time in nature, tea breaks, movie night on the couch, naps, meditation, vacation, deleting that app, creating a healthy boundary.

Magic happens when we rest and then bring that energy into our lives: Projects get finished with fresh ideas, space is created for healing, and we feel joyful while creating.

If you want this thing, this dream, this change in your life...please don’t quit. Please remember to rest when you get weary. And then keep going, my friend.

I love you and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it,

Sara
